Solar water heater mechanism

The energy emitted by sun, the sun's rays, is made of heat and sunlight. Both can be captured, transformed and used in your home to heat water. There are two types of mechanism in solar water heaters viz.Thermosyphon and Forced flow

Thermosyphon mechanism is based on "Thermosyphon Principle" where their is natural flow of water due to difference in specific gravity of both hot and cold water. This is most widely used mechanism. In this system the temperature of water cannot be controlled.

In Forced Flow mechanism their is electrical circuit and a control panel to control or set the tempereture to specific point. Once the water reaches the set specific point the switch is triggered and the water is pumped into storage tank. In this system the temperature of water can be controlled.

Types of solar water heater

Flat Plate Collectors

This solar collector is made of an aluminium body and has a toughened glass sheet on the top. The heart of the collector is a copper absorber plate which is selectively coated for better performance. This plate absorbs the maximum possible heat from the sun and passes it to the water. The collector box is well-insulated to prevent any heat loss.

Evacuated Tube Collector

An evacuated tube acts as an absorber in this type of solar water heater. Each evacuated tube consists of two glass tubes with a vacuum in between, which acts as an excellent insulator. The incident solar radiation falling on the tube passes through the outer transparent tube and strikes the inner tube. It absorbs the heat energy and then passes it to the cold water flowing in the tube.
